EPIC! Ft. Pierce Beach Tarpon MUST SEE

Tim's 2nd big beach Tarpon of the week. With the length and girth calculations this fish is about 125lb give or take. Anyway, this fish was caught on Fort Lauderdale beach, the Ft Pierce title is just to misdirect the YouTube spot stealers that watch videos for backgrounds and locations. All things considered Tim whooped this fish pretty quickly, in about 30 minutes I would say. The fish was caught on a live mullet medium to large size black mullet. The tarpon were working the pods pretty well as they migrated down the beach. Tough fishing conditions with as many as 6 different fisherman casting baits at the pod with even more throwing their cast nets directly at the pod. BONUS UNDERWATER REMIX VIDEO

Proper Cast Net Form For Mullet

When throwing a castnet the 2nd most important thing is proper form, of course the most important thing is seeing the bait, and that takes skill and knowledge. Knowledge you get by following the Reel Guys on Twitter that report where and when the bait is showing up. There are hundreds of thousands of videos on YouTube that will teach you how tothrow a cast net. But how many actually show you how to see bait? Not that many from what I have seen. So get your polarized sunglasses, look for the birds, and start seeing bait. TWITTER The Mullet Run

Best Fishing Combo for Mullet Run Fishing

Somewhat of a regional thing, but here in South Florida during the Mullet Run the fish are very close to the shoreline so we dont really use traditional beach tackle like 12 foot rods and reels that hold 600 yards of line. What we use and what has been proven for over 32 years is the whooping stick tackle. A 7 ft medium - heavy action rod with 15 - 20lb class reel, baitcaster or spinner, and spooled with fresh high vis mono and a 5ft 60lb leader to a circle hook or live bait hook. This is mostly sight cast fishing and you have to precise. We dont bring down a dozen combo with those PVC pipes that stick in the sand, and dont know what those guys are fishing for and I dont care, cause I dont have to cast past the waves. The big snook are in the first trough right off the beach. Right where the Rip Current is. Get yourself a good pair of polarized sunglasses, and they dont have to cost 200 bucks either. They just have to work. Happy Bait TWITTER @theMulletRun

Reel Snook Fishing with Captain Jeff

Monster Snook fishing with Captain Jeff Maggio. Some understandable delay on the video highlights to to spot sensitivity and spot stealing, None the less these are straight up certified lunker snook. Run that dog. Most of these fish were caught on 15lb mono with 60lb mono leaders and small circle hooks. TWITTER @theMulletRun

Braid Vs. Mono Debate - Braid Pride Exposed

Braid Vs Mono? Declare yourself fisherman! Just kidding. We are pretty much Mono Guys, but we also sport braid when its legitimate. The one thing we dont do is sport braid when we should be sporting mono.Which is most of the time braid fishing. Tarpon and Snook fishing is hard. Of course a Googan can get lucky and catch a nice fish on a shrimp hook, it happens, but if you are a Reel Guy you are trying to catch trophy fish on a regular basis. You are spending alot of time getting selects baits and you are targeting the hardest species in the sport fishing world. Bottom line, you have to put yourself in the best position to catch these fish, and unless you are dealing with multiple structures like mangroves, the forgiveness in the Mono works to your advantage. It might be cool to sport a fast action rod and a designer reel slap full of braid, and there are certainly guys producing big fish with those setups, but thats advanced angling. Are you really at that level? Are you producing big

SNOOK FISHING the Bait Run

So the Mullet Run fall migration is late this year. Nothing new, happens every few years. That doesn't mean you still cant get out there. For one thing there is good bait around. Granted it might not be the football field sized schools that you can see from a mile away but there is still good bait around. Most discouraged by the lack of the huge bait pods is of course, The Happy Baiter . This guy thinks everything revolves around an imaginary calendar that he has in his mind of when he can expect to go fishing. Nothing could  be further from reality. Snook fishing is about so much more than just huge pods of bait where you can throw a cast net and get a few dozen. Ask yourself this, Can You Get A Dozen Today?
