Best Fishing Combo for Mullet Run Fishing

Somewhat of a regional thing, but here in South Florida during the Mullet Run the fish are very close to the shoreline so we dont really use traditional beach tackle like 12 foot rods and reels that hold 600 yards of line. What we use and what has been proven for over 32 years is the whooping stick tackle. A 7 ft medium - heavy action rod with 15 - 20lb class reel, baitcaster or spinner, and spooled with fresh high vis mono and a 5ft 60lb leader to a circle hook or live bait hook. This is mostly sight cast fishing and you have to precise. We dont bring down a dozen combo with those PVC pipes that stick in the sand, and dont know what those guys are fishing for and I dont care, cause I dont have to cast past the waves. The big snook are in the first trough right off the beach. Right where the Rip Current is. Get yourself a good pair of polarized sunglasses, and they dont have to cost 200 bucks either. They just have to work. Happy Bait
